Fashion Meets Fitness Wristbands

Fitness BandsStarting that new fitness regime is never an easy task, with a million and one things to keep track of from calorie intake to distances ran each day. Behold, though, the new innovation in wrist-wear destined to make getting healthier less of a chore and more of an enjoyable experience.

The Up wristband from American company Jawbone is designed to make keeping track of your health a much easier task. This sleek wrist-wrap style bracelet, powered by MotionX technology and designed to slip neatly under every day clothing, has the ability to track everything from your activity to your sleeping patterns. It is also available in a wide variety colours, making it easy to tie into both your work and play outfits, along with a simple embossed design that looks fashionable on the wrist for subtle, daily fitness tracking.

The wristband also operates alongside a smartphone app, of the same Up name, that visually shows you all of the data it has collected whilst also allowing you to input other fitness information. As such, Up acts as an all-round fitness tracking diary.

Sleep

The wristband, amazingly, harnesses the ability to track all aspects of your sleeping patterns. The system can show you whether you have had a light sleep vs a deep sleep; how many hours you have slept; how long it took you to fall asleep; and when you had any waking moments. The smartphone app also offers a Smart Alarm – a trademark of the Up system – that wakes you up an the optimal time to leave you feeling at your most refreshed.

Monitoring- Fitness BandsActivity

As well as tracking your inactive hours, the Up also tracks your walks and workouts – but it is much more than your average pedometer. The band can track not only distance and the time spent active, but also the amount of calories burned as a result of your activity. The app’s stopwatch mode allows you to key in when you start and stop your activity and can also remind you when you have been inactive for too long. Therefore in one vein, it is a comprehensive tracking device, but in another a determined personal trainer designed to keep you moving!

Eat

As mentioned, the app allows you to input each meal that you consume, through the uploading of images or text. It also contains a concise nutritional information database that can tell you the contents of what you eat, in turn allowing you to keep an even better track of your calorie intake.

Insight Engine

The app’s key component is its Insight Engine, that displays patterns in your sleep, eating and activity habits so that you can eliminate any problem areas. Along visualising your bodily patterns, it also offers motivational messages when you hit goals, and gives you inspirational activities to complete each day.

With a retail price of £99.99 and celebrity fans such as actress Gwyneth Paltrow, will you be digging into your wallet for this latest craze in fitness tracking?
